THESE ARE THE OPINIONS OF PEOPLE UPON THE NELSON MANDELA DAY AND WHAT THEY HAVE DONE FOR THE DAY!!!

Name: Piet Nkosi

Age: 70

Gender: Male

Occupation: Casual Employee (Adam and Sons Contracts)

It is a good thing for us to celebrate the Mandela day, because this is a very great honour to our leader Nelson Mandela for the challenges he went through, so that we could live in a democratic country.

Unfortunately I did not do anything for 67 minutes, because this day is not a holiday, so I was at work. As we are working to build the library here at TUT, I think I have done something better because this will benefit the future generations and the leaders of tomorrow like Mandela.

I think Mandela day is good, because most of us are serving the community. Remember Nelson Mandela spent 67 years of his life fighting for all South Africans including myself to have the democratic rights and also to live in a democratic country. So who am I not to spend 67 minutes of serving the community?

On the 18th I was at Livuyo day care centre where my mom works to help them with anything I can.

We should all celebrate Nelson Mandela's life by the celebration of Mandela day which is a very great honour to this great man, because he done lot for our country and saved lives of lot of our people.

There was a party at our school on the 18th to celebrate this day; for 67 minutes I was involved in distributing the food and cooking for the guests and my fellow leaners at school.

Age: 8

Gender: Male

Occupation: Unemployed (Grade3 pupil)

Mandela day was Nelson Mandela's birthday and he was very happy. I was happy too because I love our Mandela.

During this day I did not do anything for community because I was at school.

Name: Tshepiso Molewa

Age: 28

Gender: Male

Occupation: Car wash owner and self employed

I don't see any reason to celebrate the Mandela day, because he was not the only one who was involved in the struggle. So why should it be Mandela out of all our hero and heroine of South Africa?

It was at least supposed to be the hero and heroine day; yes I was going to involve myself, to honour all the people who fought for us not an individual.

To be honest with you, I did not do anything in terms of involving myself in the 67 minutes of Mandela, because my question remains why Mandela out of all people.

Name: Simo Sibiya

Age: 22

Gender: Female

Occupation: Unemployed (BED FET Student)

What I think about the Mandela day is that it's good for all South Africans to celebrate it, because there is a lot Mandela did for us such as free education and the other things. I'm now here at TUT because of Mandela. He also fought to reunite all the South Africans regardless of the race or skin colour.

For the 67 minutes of Madiba's birthday, I was cleaning the toilets at the students' residents with my friends and after that we went to the streets of Soshanguve to clean the hazard.

Name: Sfiso Mhlanga

Age: 16

Gender: Male

Occupation: Unemployed (Grade10 pupil)

We should all involve ourselves in this Mandela day and help where necessary by giving the helping hands, because he made our country free.

I visited a certain Orphan Age in Soshanguve Block WW to help by building a tent and other things because they did a little celebration party. That was my 67 minutes contribution.

I honestly think that the International Mandela day is a day that we all have to reconcile and forget all our differences and to help one another, even though you don't have lot of money, but try to help where you can.

On the International Mandela day, I honestly didn't do anything, but I did help grand-mothers and grand-fathers at the Clinic to cross the road. I think even though it didn't take 67 minutes, but it was something good for the day.

Name: Keabetswe Msiza

Occupation: Unemployed (Grade6 pupil)

I was happy on Mandela day, because he did lot of things in this country such as schools and moving us from the apartheid era to the democracy of today. That's why I'm happy when Mandela celebrates.

During this day, our school was planting the trees and flowers at the Bophelo drop in Centre and I was involved in terms of serving community for 67 minutes.

I really agree with our government that we should have the Mandela day and serve our community for 67 minutes. But I think this day should be a holiday, so that people could leave whatever they are doing including their work to focus on serving the people for 67 minutes.

Actually I did not do much for 67 minutes, because I'm old now, but I've tried all my best by fixing the water taps for free at the nearest school in Mabopane.
